Pre Primary Newsletter
Dear Parents,

The week back from Shavuot has been enjoyable and exciting in our classroom.  Friends have jumped right into many of our new works.  One of their favorites has been our puzzle and book language work, in which they match the picture of an animal to its corresponding shape.  This activity gives them

the opportunity to follow a story previously read, discriminate shapes and name animals as they place them in the book.

Our very cherished “career people” language work has been modified to be more abstract, thus offering a new challenge.  Instead of matching the person to its picture, they are now matching objects corresponding to the person’s profession. For example, a picture of a badge goes with the police woman.  In our daily environment we have been encouraging the children to expand on their associative reasoning skills.  For example, on one of our walks we might invite the following discussion about mailboxes: Who uses the mailbox? Who delivers our mail? etc.  Many of our students are entering into their next stage of social development, in which they are interested in expressing themselves and holding conversations about their interests and observations with others.  In response to this, many of our language materials are desigened to elicit conversation and reasoning skills.

War continues to brew in our classroom…in our much beloved math card game. Two friends divide a deck of cards and play war with one another (up through number 5).  The goals of this activity are developing patience, turn taking, number recognition, and the concept of “more than” are all used during a basic game of war.  This is a wonderful game to continue to play on Shabbat with your child at home.

Wishing you a restful and peaceful Shabbat,
                                                                 Morah Sareet & Morah Yael
